Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) The Berthoud Elementary staff has adopted this form of behavioral support to identify, adapt and sustain effective and positive school-wide disciplinary practices. The Berthoud Elementary PBIS committee volunteers their time to build, support, and run this program for all students at Berthoud Elementary.
Core Components Of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Include:
School-wide consistency in behavioral expectations using the SOAR acronym (Safe, On-Task and Responsible, Achieve your Best, and Respect).
Teaching and modeling behavior expectations so that all Berthoud Elementary students know how to be successful in all areas of our school.
SOAR cards are given to students who are exhibiting positive behavior expectations to acknowledge and reinforce appropriate behavior.
Positive language utilization for misbehavior (for example: “Please walk in the hallway.” versus “Stop running!”)
Clear communication of student misbehavior between school and home using a new behavior report form. More information about this new tool will be coming soon.
